The Thermic Effect of MCFAs in nutrition and weight training

Nutrition and weight training is catching a lot of attraction these days due to increase in awareness on health. Energy in our body is produced when the food that we take inside is burned. A part of the energy is conserved by the body for growth. Through ‘thermogenesis” the body burns food and produces heat. The amount of heat generated depends on the food, which is known as the thermic of food (TEF). The share of food burned for energy and the share used for growth can be determined from the TEF. TEF is a very important element in nutrition and weight training.

Nutrition and weight training has a lot to do with the understanding of the way our food is utilized by the body. The metabolic rate increases after intake of food as it triggers thermogenesis. Metabolic rate is also increased by foods that have a high TEF level. So in weight training a proper discretion on the intake foods on the basis of TEF levels with give positive results. Of course positive result is what is the needed in nutrition and weight training.

Nutrition and weight training should also consider in detail the role of MCFAs. MCFAs are very quickly burned by the body and hence have a very high thermic value. In an experiment it was seen that when MCFAs was ingested, it dramatically increased the metabolic rate by 12% within a short period of 6 hours. Due to the high TEF value of the MCFAs, it is rarely stored as fat in the body. In weight training, in order to keep your metabolic rate at its peak, it will be beneficial to stick to frequent short meals. 5 to 6 meals a day will be ideal to help increase your metabolism. Hence MCFAs are highly preferred against LCTs to reduce body fat and for adhering to a proper method of nutrition and weight training.

Burning Fat

Nutrition and weight training if properly followed can be used to burn fat and keep the body in tune. Certain measures like increased intake of carbohydrate leads to burning of fat at a quick pace. When you are deficient of carbohydrate rich diet, the body produces glucagons, which retards the action of insulin. The body starts to burn fat for energy when the glycogen amount reduces. Energy level in the body reduces when there is no appropriate consumption of carbohydrates. But if the carbohydrates can be compensated by adequate intake of MCFA foods to keep the energy levels elevated. Such compensated intake creates a perfect condition for fat loss. Also the metabolic rate is kept at its best due to the high thermic level of the MCFAs. Energy levels always have to be kept at its best in nutrition and weight training.
