Flexibility And Personal Weight Training
To remain fit a personal weight training program is a must as even the training program may vary from person to person. There are many elements of fitness which need to be taken into consideration. Flexibility being an important fitness element.
Flexibility refers to the range of motion possible in the joints and is generally controlled by muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Stretching is important as it helps in increasing flexibility. Though while charting out your personal weight training program it is important to keep certain factors in mind.
Firstly, the flexibility requirement of each sport is different from the other. The areas of flexibility are different in each sports for example footballers have different flexibility requirements than professional skiers .These athletes should do quadriceps exercises which provide stability to the knee, and make themselves less flexible in side-to-side knee motion. Whereas a gymnast requires a very flexible body since it is very important in giving a performance which requires molding joints to extreme angles. No matter which sport you follow moving of joints in a flexible way is required and something which cannot be compromised on. Many people have the misconception that weightlifters are not flexible but the fact is that they are very flexible because of their personal weight training regime. This fact has been proved by a study done on champion wrestlers, champion gymnasts, and an average 16 year old and weightlifters. In terms of flexibility the weight lifters topped the chart followed by the gymnasts followed by the wrestler and the 16 year old.
The personal weight training regime you follow will be different from the one another person follows as each individual is different in terms of flexibility. Some may be very flexible others may not be that flexible. It is according to your flexibility that you get suited for one sport while unfit for another sport. A very flexible person is suited for gymnastics, but can possibly get injured in other sports. A tight-jointed person on the other hand can stand the impact stresses of contact sports, but may have difficulty at gymnastics. But there are people who fall in middle of these two extreme and can modulate their flexibility according to situations and the sports they are into. The other elements of fitness are:
1. Strength: that is maximum force in a short time
2. Muscular Endurance is basically power that is repeated for a period of time, not just a short burst
3. Cardiovascular Endurance: Force applied over the long haul
4. Flexibility: Different Range of movement in joints which help in modulating certain body movements.
