Protein weight training and the role of amino acids

Protein weight training is generally adopted these days by all weight trainers. Muscles are formed of proteins which are generated from amino acids. Nearly 35% of the muscle is composed of branched chain amino acids (BCAAs) like I-leucine, I-isoleucine, and I-valine, which are responsible for building up of the muscle. If these BCAAs are in short then muscle loss will occur. Amino acids have to be adequately maintained for protein weight training.

Protein weight training naturally requires consumption of high-protein foods. The BCAAs in a protein rich diet are easily processed by the liver and released into the blood stream for the muscles to absorb. The BCAAs are metabolized in the muscles whereas the amino acids are metabolized in the liver. Insulin helps in transportation of the BCAAs into the muscle to enable muscle growth and repair. It is advisable that BCAAs is always taken along with the meals and should not be consumed in an empty stomach for a effective protein weight training.

Growth Hormone (GH) releasers

Protein weight training can benefit from what is known as “GH releasers”, which is also an amino acid formulation used by body builders to build their muscles and reduce fat. There are many types of the GH releasers which includes amino acids like arginine, lysine, ornithine, tyrosine, and glycine.

These GH releasers contribute to the secretion of growth hormone. The growth hormones are stored in the pituitary gland of the brain and are responsible for the growth of the body. Any imbalance in the pituitary leads to stunted or abnormal growth. When protein is metabolized the amino acids are transported across cellular membranes, which increases the size of the cells enabling protein synthesis. The growth hormone effectively utilizes the protein for energy and prevents any protein breakdown. The growth hormones are secreted throughout the lifetime of an individual and are responsible for the conversion of fatty acids into acetyl-Co-A in the tissues which is used for the production of energy. Various factors influence the section like the nutritional status, exercise, time of day, workout, stress etc.

Amino acids when ingested intravenously, enables release of these important growth hormones. Studies have found that the level of growth hormones in the body can only be effectively improved by a blend of two amino acids known as arginine pyroglutamate and lysine monohydrochloride. For body builders adequate intake of such types of supplements is very important to compensate for the muscle damage sustained during weight training. Like the GH releasers this blend too is also available to the body builders as a food supplement for protein weight training.
