The second basic rule to follow while you workout on an equipment is that you must develop a systematic pattern of breathing which is rhythmic and in sync with the exercise routine. You must inhale while doing the less strenuous (eccentric) exercise and exhale while doing the most strenuous (concentric) portion of the exercise. An example can be drawn for proper breathing while doing a military (overhead) press repetition. When you bring the bar towards your shoulders you must inhale. And while your arms extend upward over your head you must exhale. The inhale/exhaling process must be rhythmic, slow and continuous. You should not have any air in your lungs when you finish the exercise and should be ready to inhale for the downward press (eccentric phase).
