The weight gain diet should contain limited quantities of fat and cholesterol. In fact for weight gain it is very important to consume some quantities of fat. You do not have to get into a stage of paranoia because as a body builder your trainer asked you to consume some full cream milk and a few extra eggs for fat weight gain

For a hard training bodybuilder who is health conscious, dietary fat and cholesterol are not the horror substances some make them out to be. Of course that does not mean that you can consume uncontrollable amount of fat and cholesterol.

As a body builder you can consume lot of dairy products and eggs, with a combination of fiber foods, lots of fruit and greens, fish most days, and a lot of raw food but avoid meat and "junk" food. Your weight gain diet here should also include olive oil. Other factors that will help with weight gain are don't smoke, exercise hard - including target heart rate aerobic training, take a broad spectrum vitamin and mineral supplement together with additional vitamins C and E, and don't use drugs. In comparison there is a heavily built bodybuilder who downs, weekly, gallons of full-fat milk, dozens of eggs and lots of full-fat cheese along with generous consumption of "junk" food and a low-fiber, highly refined diet. He sometimes also takes steroids and perhaps even smokes. For such a body builder this will lead to fat weight gain and will be a recipe for disaster, maybe a fatal one.

The key word along with a weight gain diet is a healthy lifestyle with controlled diet of fats, cholesterol. Have a periodic check of your blood cholesterol level. If it's high, then investigate your lifestyle and seek medical advice. If it's low, you're doing fine. Even if it is a high reading, don't automatically assume that it's your intake of fat (or cholesterol) that's the main cause. Substituting some animal fats with similar or even larger quantities of fats from olive oil, fish, nuts and seeds can reduce cholesterol levels without reducing fat intake and can be the weight gain diet that you are looking for.

Also a not so low cholesterol level does not mean you are a candidate for heart attack. There are many risk factors in heart disease including smoking, genetic inheritance, hypertension, diabetes and inactivity. A high cholesterol level is only one of the risk factors. Pay attention to reducing the effect of all risk factors, including your cholesterol level, but don't focus on just one or two of them. Medical study reports have also indicated that cholesterol alone can not be held responsible for heart conditions but it is the overall lifestyle that is to blame.

To single out your fat intake as the big factor behind heart and circulatory illness is misplaced. Fat intake is just one factor amongst so many that can contribute to a heart condition. For your fat weight diet keeping your fat intake as moderate at its upper limit if you're young, and reduce it (and total energy intake) as you get into middle age. Just don't turn a concern into a neurosis. An important reason for not consuming excess fat is that you need to get, daily, a lot of carbohydrates. You must have plenty of space in your diet to consume them.

Finally bodybuilders who use steroids in their weight gain diet need to follow extremely low-fat diets that are almost devoid of saturated fat. This along with cardio-respiratory workout helps to compensate for the heart-threatening side-effects of steroids. Just because the leading body builders strongly recommend a very low-fat diet, doesn't mean that it's necessarily good for you too.
